The Greenham Oncology Centre

In response to the generosity of a huge number of local supporters, and a grant from The Greenham Trust, Ark Cancer Charity has recently funded a £1.6 million redesign of the previous Oncology building; which has now been re-named the Greenham Oncology Centre.

Vibrant colours and attractive wall features provide a colourful, calm and inspiring environment for both patients and staff, who were also involved in the design process and are hugely proud of this wonderful facility.

The Centre focuses on delivering high quality, effective and compassionate care. The staff aim to meet the patients’ needs by providing holistic and personalised care and each year up to 100,000 treatments will take place within the Centre.

The re-design has also provided more space for cancer specialists and professionals to be present in the Centre. This, in turn, has increased multidisciplinary working which has strengthened patient-centred care.

The Oncology Centre is also close to the Wellbeing Centre where patients can access a variety of complementary therapies to assist with possible side effects of their cancer treatment.

Hilotherm

Following a successful bid by the ARK Cancer Charity, the Edwina Mountbatten and Leonora Children’s Foundation, awarded Hampshire Hospitals a large donation to enable two Hilotherm machines to be installed in the chemotherapy units in both Basingstoke and Winchester.

Hilotherapy devices such as Hilotherm, prevent or reduce the potential for nerve damage in patients receiving active chemotherapy by allowing tissue temperature of the hands and feet be kept constantly cool. The technology ensures the cooling of both the hands and the feet simultaneously and the sensors ensure the temperature does not fluctuate during treatment.

We are grateful for the support we have received from Lady Mountbatten and her team, which has enabled Hampshire Hospital to be one of only two NHS Hospitals to introduce this new pioneering technology.

Leonora's Garden

Ark Cancer Charity initiated the design and landscape of a beautiful serene and tranquil garden area surrounding the Centre opened by Lady Mountbatten and named Leonora’s Garden.

Walkways, terraces and arches provide interesting and relaxing areas for patients and relatives to enjoy and by using specific plants and trees we aim to provide year round interest.
