The Wellbeing Centre Team

The Wellbeing and Supportive Care Service is part of Cancer Services at Hampshire Hospitals. Run by a group of experienced and highly skilled practitioners ready to support you, and your family through the challenges that a cancer diagnosis may bring.

The Cancer Services team at HHFT will offer advice and information or signpost to local or national support groups, and offer inhouse services such as complementary therapies and emotional support, all from our beautiful Ark Cancer Charity funded Wellbeing Centre at Basingstoke Hospital.

The Wellbeing Centre will open its doors this autumn to cancer patients of North Hampshire Hospital Basingstoke. We will be providing a range of wellbeing and supportive services such as scar tissues massage, aromatherapy, acupuncture and counselling.  Patients will be able to access these services by referral from their CNS Nurse.

Our Lead Therapist Julie Walsh is the Lead Complementary Therapist for Ark Cancer Charities Wellbeing and Supportive Care Service.

With 25 years’ experience as a therapist, over 10 years’ experience working with oncology and end of life patient’s, Julie has provided Holistic Clinical Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Massage Therapies for oncology patients at QA Hospital Portsmouth, Wessex Cancer Trust Portsmouth, Breast Cancer Haven Wessex, Winchester Hospice and have undertaken training at Royal Marsden, Chelsea and The Christie, Manchester. So brings a wealth of experience to our patients here in Basingstoke. Julie will have a key role developing the service over the next 12 months alongside the cancer care team at Basingstoke Hospital.

Alongside, or combined with your medical treatments, complementary therapy can help ease some side effects of cancer or its treatment.

We can offer the following treatments separately or in combination depending on your requirements:

  • Scar tissue massage
  • Acupuncture
  • Aromatherapy
  • Massage
  • Reflexology
  • Lymph massage

If you are a HHFT cancer patient and are interested in accessing our services, please ask your healthcare professional to refer you.

Before any treatment, a member of our team will call you to ensure complementary therapy is suitable and safe for your current situation. They may need to check your treatment records or speak with your team before proceeding.
