Treat for music lovers at concert for Ark

Music lovers are in for a treat as talented singers and musicians team up to put on a fundraising concert for a local cancer centre charity.

All Saints Church, in Southern Road, Basingstoke will be the wonderful setting for the Saturday, July 13 concert featuring the Basing Singers, Ooh Mama, and the Heritage Light Orchestra.

This summer concert will be raising funds for Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s £5million appeal that will help to fund a much-needed NHS cancer treatment centre at Basingstoke hospital.

The marvellous programme will include Requiem by John Rutter, Adiemus by Karl Jenkins, and the rousing Zadok The Priest by George Frideric Handel.

Basing Singers are a mixed voice choir, and the organisation celebrated its 50th birthday last year. Based in Old Basing, it features choir members from all over Hampshire, and the singers perform a wide repertoire of songs under the direction of Stuart Hicken.

Ooh Mama Ladies Choir was set up in 2012 by current Music Director Kate Barrett, and they have become a familiar, and popular, feature of the local music scene.

Tickets for the concert are £10 for adults, with children admitted for free. Tickets will be available on the door or can be bought in advance by calling 01256 471493, Refreshments will be served during the interval.

Merv Rees, Ark Cancer Centre Charity trustee, said: “We are grateful to these marvellous singers and musicians for putting on this lovely summer concert to support Ark. This will be a wonderful evening, and I hope that many Ark supporters are among the audience.”
