Sponsored Headshave

Sandra Hubbard was inspired to raise money for the Ark Cancer Centre Charity after watching close friends battle cancer.

The 54-year-old grandmother-of-14, of Trinidad Close, Popley, had her brown hair cut off at Toni and Guy, in Festival Place, after taking the brave decision to adopt the dramatic new look to generate funds for the Ark Cancer Centre Charity.

Watched by a group of her close friends and family, Sandra, a mother-of-six, then had the remaining stubble dyed pink and a cancer ribbon and heart shaved into the back of her head.

She told The Gazette: “It went absolutely fabulously. I am a little lighter on the head. When I turned up I was petrified and my daughter asked me if I was going to go through with it and I said to her that I would.

“I have lost friends to cancer and at the moment, I have one friend who has a brain tumour and probably won’t come through it.

“The main reason I am raising money is because people have to travel too far and this new centre would stop that. It is not going to be a hospital environment; it is going to be like a four-star hotel which will help people.”
