The sign of a great partnership

With the new season less than two weeks away, the sign welcoming football fans to Basingstoke Town FC's Ark Cancer Centre Charity Stadium is now in place.

The team's stadium has been renamed for the 2016-17 season following a trailblazing show of support by supporters and officials at the club. The significant backing for the charity is believed to be the first time that a club in the football league pyramid have renamed their stadium after a charity for a whole season.

Support for the proposal, which will be part of a partnership between the club and charity for the coming season, came at an end-of-season fans’ forum in May. Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications for Ark Cancer Centre Charity, said: “Basingstoke Town FC is at the heart of the local community, and it is a club with a great history. The charity is delighted to be involved in this community partnership with the club, and it's great to see the new ground sign in place ahead of the big kick-off."

Club chairman Rafi Razzak said: “Ark Cancer Centre Charity is raising money for a much-needed cancer treatment centre, and as chairman of our community-focused club, I am delighted that Basingstoke Town FC will be involved in helping to raise awareness of the charity’s £5m appeal and the cancer treatment centre project."

The new Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division season kicks off on August 6 when Basingstoke take on Banbury Town at the Ark Cancer Charity Stadium.
