Sian's art for Ark's sake is set be an auction winner

She made her mark in Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s major fundraising event of 2017 – and talented artist Sian Storey is making a big contribution to this year’s showcase event.

Basingstoke-based artist Sian has very generously created a work of art for Une Grande Nuit – and this will be one of the prizes that will be auctioned at the September 22 event.

Sian, whose work has featured in The Independent on Sunday and The Metro newspapers, as well as on the BBC website, The Telegraph website and the Time Out London blog, was one of the artists who created bookbenches for the high-profile Sitting With Jane public art trail.

Ark was the charity partner for the Sitting With Jane event which saw 24 bookbenches go on display from June 17-August 31, 2017 in and around Basingstoke and Deane as part of celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s passing.

The bookbenches were auctioned on September 15, and 75 per cent of the proceeds went to Ark, resulting in the charity receiving more than £65,000. Sian’s The Golden Peacock bookbench attracted the joint-highest bid of £7,000 on the auction night.

Sian said: “I was delighted to be commissioned to paint two of the Sitting With Jane bookbenches, and I was thrilled that both of my benches raised several thousand pounds for Ark.

“I am pleased to be able to support the charity again this evening by creating this special work of art for the auction. I am glad that not only will it be going to a good home but whoever buys it will also be helping a very good cause.”

Sian loves painting birds and wildlife, but she also creates beautiful figurative paintings of women, which are infused with emotion.

She mainly works from found images, and is particularly drawn to colour, ethnic pattern, flora and forna, and beautiful pictures.

Sian keeps scrapbooks of images and photos she has collected on her travels, and these are directly referenced in her paintings.

Her tools vary depending on the type of image she is making, although her favourite tools are a spray can and a paintbrush.

An artist who has work hanging all over the globe – including in New York, Berlin, Bilbao, Bahrain, Melbourne and Canada – Sian’s wonderful creations are increasing in popularity among art lovers.
