A Night of All That Jazz and Sensational Soul boosts Mayor’s Charity Appeal

The Clive Fortune Big Band and soul singer Natasha Watts and her band were the shining stars in a special one-off concert at The Anvil on Saturday, March 5 - delivering a great boost to this year’s Mayor's Charity Appeal.

The special one-off concert pulled in the pounds for Ark Cancer Centre Charity, Inspero and Basingstoke Multicultural Forum - the three charities that will benefit from the appeal being championed by Basingstoke and Deane Mayro Councillor Anne Court.

The Clive Fortune Big Band is a high-calibre, 19-piece Basingstoke-based big band performing jazz standards and big band classics, and they wowed the crowd with an outstanding and varied first-half repertoire.

The second-half of the show saw soul queen Natasha and her band take centre stage with a great selection of original and cover tracks. The Basingstoke singer-songwriter, who last year supported Motown legend Gladys Knight at the Royal Albert Hall, was thrilled to make her Anvil debut in front of home-town fans just weeks ahead of her own UK tour.

The concert also featured a raffle, which raised more than £800, and while the final total raised from the night has still to be confirmed, it is hoped that the event will have boosted the appeal by more than £4,000.

Basingstoke and Deane Mayor Councillor Anne Court said: “I am delighted, and grateful, that Clive and Natasha and their bands performed in support of my charity appeal – it was a very enjoyable, entertaining and memorable evening. Thank you to everyone who was involved in organising and supporting this event, and also to the many hundreds of people who turned out to enjoy it. The feedback has been great and I am pleased that everyone had a good time and also helped three good causes.”
