Meet our new Supportive Care Lead for the Wellbeing Centre

We are delighted to be able to introduce our new Macmillan Supportive Care Lead,Jaana.

Jaana qualified as a clinical dietitian in 2008 and has worked in both NHS and academic settings. She has worked in a range of clinical disciplines within the Wessex area (Dorset and Hampshire), but her passion has always been cancer care. Her research interests have been focused on breast cancer, physical activity, and the challenges of' living beyond cancer'. Janna has worked with breast cancer charities for many years delivering programs such as ‘Moving Forward’.

In July of 2021, she moved from her role as an oncology specialist dietitian to the Macmillan Supportive Care Lead post at Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust (HHFT). Jaana is an integral member of the HHFT Cancer Services Team working closely with external partners such as the Wessex Cancer Alliance, the Integrated Care System (ICS) and CCG, Macmillan and patient support groups to develop services which are in line with the national Cancer Care plan outlined by NHS England.

As part of her role, Janna will be overseeing the development of the Ark's Wellbeing Service that will be rolled out across HHFT.  Our  aim is to ensure that every patient and their loved ones have timely and appropriate access to these supportive services when they are most needed. Embedding a culture of holistic and personalised care into everything we do at HHFT for our cancer patients is absolutely key.

Going forward Jaana will be recruiting specialist therapists to deliver a range of services for patients treated at HHFT.  Its a very exciting journey for Ark Cancer Charity and we aim to share more with you all soon.
