Jon sheds pounds to raise pounds for Ark

IT WAS a truly awesome challenge – shedding four stone in three months and raising £500 for Ark Cancer Centre Charity – but amazing Jon Mills has smashed it!

Jon, managing director of Black and White Accounting, headquartered at Herriard Park, near Basingstoke, beat his daunting weight-loss challenge by one pound – and he has nearly doubled his fundraising goal, clocking up £965 so far.

Father-of-four Jon said: "I had a couple of hiccups along the way, but I'm delighted to have achieved both of my goals.

"It wasn’t easy at times, but my strong motivation for this was my kids, and I also wanted to raise as much money as possible for the amazing Ark Cancer Centre Charity."

Jon, who was coached and supported on his weight-loss challenge by award-winning The 1:1 Diet Consultant Georgina Jeffery, added: "I have had some great support along the way from Georgina, family and friends, and I am delighted to have got across the finish line with one pound to spare.

“I am so grateful to everyone who has encouraged me along the way, and thank you to everyone who has sponsored me. I am delighted to have nearly doubled my fundraising target, and there is still time to donate if anyone wants to.”

Mark Jones, Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s director of fundraising and communications, said: “Congratulations to Jon on this amazing achievement. This was a really big challenge and Jon has done so well to achieve his target weight and raise so much for Ark.

“Every pound raised by Jon will help Ark to help and support cancer patients and their loved ones. His support, at what has been a particularly challenging time for charities, means such a lot and has made a big difference.”

Ark Cancer Centre Charity is raising £5million to help Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) colleagues fund and deliver supportive care and services, complementary therapies, and an enhanced environment for patients and families.

Ark’s ultimate goal is to help fund and deliver services in a new cancer treatment centre. The planned centre is part of the Hampshire Together programme, which is focused on delivering a new hospital or health campus that will serve residents in the HHFT area. This will hopefully be built between 2024 and 2030.

In the immediate future, donations by supporters of Ark Cancer Centre Charity have enabled HHFT to press ahead with the creation of a well-being centre in the existing Radiotherapy Unit on the Basingstoke site. This is nearing completion and will open soon.

As well as funding the well-being centre, which will feature counselling and therapy rooms, Ark is also providing funds to pay for additional HHFT support staff, as well as education and exercise events that will benefit cancer patients in The Ark Conference Centre.
