Jan and fellow comics deliver charity cheer

A Basingstoke comedienne and her comedy club audience have delivered a boost to Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s fundraising appeal.

A collection was held at Jan Jack’s Laughter-House Comedy Club in The Red Lion Hotel, Basingstoke, on March 10 – and as well as enjoying an evening of great entertainment, the kind-hearted audience donated £209.38.

And there was an added bonus for the charity when generous Jan announced she would be making a £100 donation herself.

The audience were treated to an evening of top comedy from three stand-ups – headliner Chris McCausland, Junior Simpson and Matt Winning – as well as a spot of poetic comedy from Jan, and the whole evening was brilliantly MC’d by comedian Phil Dinsdale.

Jan, who has been bringing great stand-up comedy acts to Basingstoke since 2007, said: “Ark Cancer Centre Charity is raising £5million towards a unique local cancer treatment centre that will make a big difference to the lives of people in Basingstoke and Deane and further afield, and I am delighted that the Laughter-House Comedy Club crowd have generously supported it through the collection at the latest evening.”

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications at Ark Cancer Centre Charity, said: “Thanks to Jan and the audience for their generous support. Not only did the evening raise a lot of laughs, but it also helped to raise awareness of Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s fundraising appeal and some welcome funds.”
