Happy birthday to The Village Café

Happy birthday to The Village Café - a community project that has helped Ark and other good causes.

It's one year since the community café opened in Old Basing - and over the last 12 months, the team have raised £4,000 for charity.

The volunteers running The Village Café, which is based in the Parish Room at St Mary’s Church, have been delighted with the response from local people and visitors since they opened the doors last October.

The regular Friday afternoon café has been a big hit, and the venue, which serves drinks and cakes, has proved popular with people of all ages.

Every three months, The Village Café is supporting a local good cause, and Ark Cancer Centre Charity was the first beneficiary, receiving a cheque for £1,119.21.

Mark Jones, popped in today to wish the team happy birthday. He said: “Thanks to everyone at The Village Café for their kind and generous support for Ark and other good causes over the last year. Ark was honoured to be the first charity to receive support from this wonderful community venture, and they have clearly made a difference to the organisations they have supported over the last year. “It is great that this local project is providing a lovely facility for the Old Basing community and a boost for local good causes.”

Debbie Filer, one of the team behind The Village Café project, said: “We are delighted with the response to the opening of The Village Café, and are thrilled that we have raised £4,000.

“We look forward to seeing more people coming through the doors over the coming year on a Friday afternoon, and also to supporting other local good causes.”
