Fabulous Arkriders gear up for latest challenge

They've piled on the pedal power from John O’Groats to Land’s End, London to Brighton, and from Basingstoke to Paris – and now the fabulous Arkriders are all geared up for another challenge in support of Ark Cancer Centre Charity.

The Arkriders have collectively raised nearly £180,000 for Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s £5million campaign to help fund a much-needed new cancer treatment centre in Basingstoke.

The group’s major fundraising event of 2018 will be a charity dinner at the Apollo Hotel, in Basingstoke, on September 22 – but they couldn’t resist arranging a 2018 cycling reunion.

On July 14, a 36-strong group of Arkriders, including some new recruits, will set off from the Apollo Hotel and will travel 70 miles to Bournemouth, before making the return journey the next day.

The event is called the Bournemouth Beano, and it has been kindly sponsored by Ark Our Partner supporter Beaufort Financial. The cyclists have all paid their own way to take part, and some of the entry fee will be donated to Ark after costs are covered. Some of the riders are also seeking sponsorship support through fundraising pages.

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications at Ark Cancer Centre Charity, said: “The Arkriders are an incredible group of people who have made such a massive difference to Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s £5million fundraising campaign in support of the new cancer treatment centre.

“Good luck to the riders and support team who are taking part in the July 14-15 Bournemouth Beano. We hope that the Arkriders have a lot of fun, and their latest fundraising efforts for the charity, which is helping to fund the new Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust cancer treatment centre, are much appreciated.”

An Arkriders team fundraising page has been set up on JustGiving and supporters can make a donation by clicking on https://bit.ly/2KLsAVh.

As part of the build-up to the Bournemouth Beano, members of the Beaufort Financial team will be clocking up the miles on a static bike from July 9-13.

On each of the five days, the Beaufort Financial team will be racking up 70 miles – the distance of each leg of the Bournemouth Beano challenge – and they are hoping that other Ark supporters will drop in to the company’s offices at Dunsden, near Reading, and provide some additional pedal power during the week.

Beaufort Financial director Mark Dolby, who with administrator colleague Ashley Hull will be among the cyclists taking part in the Bournemouth Beano, said: “We decided to do the static bike challenge to help raise awareness of the Arkriders Bournemouth Beano event, which Beaufort Financial is sponsoring, and Ark Cancer Centre Charity, which we are proud to support as our Charity of the Year.

“We will be opening up our office to guest riders on July 10, 11 and 12 so it would be great to see some fellow Ark fundraisers come along and hop on the static bike to help us reach our target miles on those days.”

To sign up for a stint on the static bike, contact Beaufort Financial marketing executive Sophie Elderton on 0118 987 9400 or email Sophie.elderton@beaufortfinancial.co.uk.
