Ed and Amie pile on the miles

The dynamic duo of Ed Lowman and Amie Frayne are celebrating after completing the first half of a long-distance running double in support of Ark Cancer Centre Charity.

On Sunday, Ed and Amie took part in the New Forest Marathon - crossing the finish line in just over four hours.

Ed and his girlfriend won't be resting on their laurels though, and in just over two weeks, the pair will be piling on the miles for the charity in the Bournemouth Half-Marathon on October 2.

Ed and Amie are delighted that they are already close to achieving their original fundraising target, and they are now hoping to smash through that barrier.

Ed said: "Thank you to everyone for your amazing support - we really appreciate it! We finished the New Forest Marathon in 4hrs 5mins. We are very happy with this time and it was a very beautiful route."

Ed added: "Cancer has affected both our families in the past and continues to do so now. It is such a cruel illness and can affect anyone at any time in their life.

"We chose to support Ark as the charity is looking to do something amazing on a local level that will benefit others going through what we have within Hampshire.

"The charity is looking to help build a state-of-the-art treatment centre where patients can get the best possible care. With this new facility, others will stand a fanastic chance of winning their own personal fights with cancer."

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications at Ark Cancer Centre Charity, said: "Well done to Ed and Amie on completing the first of their two-part running challenge. They are really going more than the extra mile to support the charity's £5million appeal, and I wish them well for the Bournemouth event on October 2."
