EastEnders star James puts Ark in national TV spotlight

EastEnders star James Bye put Ark Cancer Centre Charity in the national spotlight when he supported the good cause on Pointless Celebrities.

Basingstoke-born James, who has played the role of Martin Fowler in the popular BBC1 soap since 2014, chose to support Ark after he and EastEnders co-star Davood Ghadami got through to the final round of the popular BBC1 quiz show.

Unfortunately, James and Davood, who was supporting Prostate Cancer UK, didn't land the £2,500 jackpot that was up for grabs, but they did win £250 for each of their chosen charities.

On the show, which aired on Saturday, January 11, James spoke about Ark's £5million to help fund a new NHS cancer treatment centre at Basingstoke hospital -  https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000dcbs/pointless-celebrities-series-12-soaps (go to 39:50)

It's not the first time that James has kindly helped and supported Ark - he and fellow EastEnders star Shane Richie, who plays Alfie Moon, filmed a special video message for the 2018 'Une Grande Nuit' fundraising dinner that was organised by the Arkriders, who have now raised nearly £300,000 for Ark.

Merv Rees, Ark Cancer Centre Charity trustee and renowned liver cancer surgeon, who has been a driving force behind the charity and the supportive care centre campaign, said: "Massive thanks to James for putting Ark, and the cancer treatment centre campaign it is supporting, in the national TV spotlight.

"It is great to have such high-profile support, and also thanks to James for choosing to donate his prize money to Ark."
