Cyclists are cancer centre Champions!

A team of fundraisers are cancer charity champions after completing a cycling challenge in support of a £5million fundraising campaign.

The 24-strong Team Champion The Wacky Riders were among thousands of cyclists who took part in Bike 4 Cancer’s 58-mile London to Brighton bike ride on Sunday.

The cyclists were all raising money for Ark Cancer Centre Charity, which is helping to fund a unique local cancer treatment centre in the Basingstoke area – and the fantastic fundraisers, and their supporters, have really made a big difference to the charity’s £5m appeal.

Donations are still coming in but Perry Champion, who has been the driving force behind the fundraising effort, hopes that the final total will be close to £30,000.

Perry, director of the Basingstoke-based construction industry-related Champion Group, based in Roentgen Road, Basingstoke, said: “All of the cyclists were delighted to complete the London to Brighton challenge – it was a great team effort.

“We are all so grateful to the wonderful businesses and individuals who have sponsored and supported us. This generosity, and the hard work and effort that the cyclists have put in, means our fundraising efforts have really paid off for a local good cause that we are pleased and proud to support.”

Perry added the Team Champion cyclists were particularly grateful to their main sponsors. In addition to the Champion Group itself, Loft Plan, John Reilly Civil Engineering Ltd, Chandler HP, Redrow Homes, and PB Edwards have all come on board with key sponsorship support.

Perry said he and the team are delighted with the support they have received from the main sponsors and their many other supporters.

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications for Ark Cancer Centre Charity, was delighted to be among the Team Champion supporters in Brighton as the riders reached the finish line.

He said: “Team Champion have really lived up to their name, and Ark Cancer Centre Charity is very grateful to all of the riders who completed this cycling challenge.
