Champion result for Ark at Basingstoke RFC

Ark Cancer Centre Charity achieved a winning result at Basingstoke Rugby Football Club thanks to some generous support from all involved in the auction of a special sporting memento.

Champion Group, 'Stoke's main sponsor, hosted their annual sponsored match at the Down Grange club on Saturday.

Managing director Barry Champion kindly donated a giant signed photograph of record England try scorer Rory Underwood to be auctioned with the proceeds going to Ark, which is the charity of the year of Basingstoke RFC President Dr Steve Tristram.

Former England and Hampshire cricketer Shaun Udal, who now runs the thriving Cotton Graphics clothing and embroidery business in Basingstoke, took on the auctioneer's role, and there was some competitive bidding for the prized sporting lot.

In the end, the winning, and generous, bid came from John Hutchings, from Miller Homes Southern - adding a further £500 to the President's charity total.

We thanks everyone involved in the auction, particularly to Barry for donating the prize and John for his generous winning bid."The Champion Group-sponsored match is always a highlight of the Basingstoke RFC season, and so it proved again on Saturday."
