AXA Wealth Fat Boys pile on the miles and pounds

Congratulations to AXA Wealth chief executive Mike Kellard and his fellow cyclists who have completed their 400km challenge in Spain.

The Fat Boys, as they are known, are raising money for AXA Wealth's two charities of the year – Ark Cancer Centre Charity and The UK Sepsis Trust.

The AXA Wealth team of chief executive Mike, Ian Colquhoun, director corporate investment services, senior programme manager Dave Deadman, head of strategic management Dave Whiteman, head of executive office Simon Daunter, and Original Fat Boy Nick Elphick, who left AXA Wealth two years ago, have been eating up the miles and clocking up the cash on the four-day trek which started on Monday.

Training is never easy but this year it has been even harder for Mike, who has made a great recovery from sepsis – a potentially fatal form of blood poisoning.

This delayed his training but he and the others have shown great spirit in getting in the saddle for what is the sixth fundraiser by the Fat Boys team - and today they crossed the finish line.

Over the past five years, and with the backing of their generous supporters, the Fat Boys have raised more than £85,000 for various good causes.

Mike said: “We’re so thankful to everyone who has donated money over the years – the generosity has been overwhelming.

“When we started, we couldn’t have dreamed that within five years, we’d have raised this kind of money for such great charities.

“So far this year, we have raised nearly £10,000, so thank you once again to all our sponsors and our primary supporter, FNZ.

“A few months ago, we were thinking of cancelling the ride, but this is an ideal way to give something back. The Spanish heat added another challenge, but seeing the incredible support we have been given was great motivation.”
