Ark will be The Portsmouth Arms Charity of the Week

HE’S a world record-breaking quiz king – and now Basingstoke pub landlord Richard Curtis and his wonderful quiz fans are set to give Ark Cancer Centre Charity a helping hand.

Father-of-three Richard, landlord of The Portsmouth Arms, in Hatch Warren, has been hosting a quiz online virtually every day since the COVID-19 lockdown started, entertaining more than 300,000 people who have taken part, and raising more than £40,000 for local charities.

Richard set a new record for the world’s longest-ever quiz over the weekend of May 9-10 – clocking up more than 34 hours as quizmaster.

From June 3-June 6, Ark will be proud and honoured to be the quiz charity of the week – and Ark supporters are being urged to come on board and join in the free nightly 50-question quizzes which are held live on Facebook, and get underway at 8pm click here. If they wish to, contestants can make an online donation to the charity.

A highlight of Ark’s charity week will happen on Saturday, June 6 when Basingstoke singer-songwriter and fabulous Ark supporter Natasha Watts will pop into The Portsmouth Arms to perform a socially-distanced concert from 6.30pm-7.30pm ahead of that night’s quiz.

Richard has been doing the nightly quiz every single day since lockdown, and is delighted to have been helping people to stay in and stay together, as well as raising a lot of money for local good causes.

The generous support from people who have taken part in the quizzes has been fantastic, and Richard is delighted that so far, more than £40,000 has been raised.

Mark Jones congratulated Richard on bringing people together during lockdown, and his generous quiz contestants on raising so much money for local good causes.

"Everyone at Ark is grateful to Richard and Natasha for this wonderful show of support in the first week of June – and thank you to everyone who gets involved, and donates. “Like every charity, Ark’s fundraising has been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 crisis as we had to cancel Ark Day 2020, which was set to be our biggest fundraising campaign of the year.“We are blessed to have so many wonderful supporters and we hope that they, and other quiz fans, will get involved, and will particularly be part of the June 6 quiz night when our fabulous supporter Natasha will be performing.
