Ark supporters raise nearly £90K in a few weeks

Fundraisers and supporters of Ark Cancer Centre Charity have clocked up an amazing achievement by raising nearly £90,000 in less than two months.

Ark is raising £5million to help fund the new HHFT cancer treatment centre that will be built at Basingstoke hospital, and this summer has seen the following fundraising successes:

  • Ark Day – This community-focused event on Friday, June 21 – the longest daylight day of the year – saw fundraisers and supporters raise £30,892. Individuals, schools, businesses and other organisations in Basingstoke and Deane took part in various events and activities to raise as much money as possible in 24 hours.
  • Arkriders Twin Towns Tour – Thirty Arkrider cyclists piled on the pedal power, and clocked up the pounds, by riding 500 miles through five countries in five days from July 17 to 22. Their collective fundraising efforts, and £10,000 of corporate sponsorship support, meant that just over £54,000 was raised for Ark Cancer Centre Charity.
  • Laugh For Ark – A charity comedy night, organised by Jan Jack’s Laughter-House Comedy Club and the Apollo Hotel, in Basingstoke, and sponsored by Ark Our Partner supporter Unum, on August 2, resulted in more than £2,200 being raised for Ark.

“This is an awesome fundraising achievement,” said Merv Rees, HHFT liver cancer surgeon and Ark Cancer Centre Charity trustee.

“Thank you so much to everyone who has been involved in fundraising for, or supporting, these latest events.”

Merv added: “Ark is now nearing the £2.5million fundraising milestone. The campaign to raise £5m continues, and plans to build the new cancer treatment centre at Basingstoke hospital are progressing.

“I am confident that the latter months of 2019 will see significant and positive developments for the project, and the charity’s campaign to help deliver improved cancer care and support for local people.”
