Ark supporters honoured at A Place to be Proud of Awards

Congratulations to Ark Cancer Centre Charity supporters who celebrated well-deserved success and recognition at the 2018 A Place to be Proud of Awards.

Ark Our Partner supporter Champion Group won the Business and the Community award following a public vote, and fellow Ark Our Partner supporter Lamb Brooks was one of the other two finalists in the same category.

The fabulous Arkriders, who have so far raised more than £170,000 for Ark, were also nominated for awards at the 2018 event and were among the finalists in the Community Project category.

The Champion Group team are supporting Ark as their 2018 Charity of the Year, and members of the team have previously helped to raise tens of thousands of pounds for Ark by taking part in other fundraising initiatives.

Perry Champion and Kevin Croombs are among the leading members of the Arkriders, and they and Sam Champion and Paul Kent were among 34 Arkriders who raised more than £70,000 by riding from Ark’s Basingstoke office to the Arc de Triomphe last July.

In addition to supporting Ark, the Champion Group team have raised money for various other charities in recent years, and for 14 seasons, the company has been the main sponsor of Basingstoke Rugby Football Club.

Lucy Boazman, chief executive of Business and the Community award sponsor Basingstoke Together, said: “The Champion Group is proud to be a Basingstoke-based company, and its staff have a long track record of supporting, and engaging with, charity and community-minded groups in the town and borough where many of the employees live, work and have grown up. This award is, therefore, very fitting for them to win.”

Ark Cancer Centre Charity trustee Merv Rees said: “Congratulations to Champion Group on winning the Business and the Community category, and also congratulations to Lamb Brooks and Arkriders for being finalists at this year’s awards.

“The A Place to be Proud of Awards recognise special individuals, groups and organisations that really make a difference in Basingstoke and Deane, and it is great to see some of our wonderful Ark Cancer Centre Charity supporters receiving this well-deserved recognition.”

The awards, which have been running for 15 years, took place at the Haymarket Theatre. The event is organised by Destination Basingstoke and the 2018 awards – which featured 10 categories – were compered by previous award winner and Basingstoke legend David Holby-Wolinski.
